Augmented Reality Game Announcement
Ever thought, “You know what this AI-generated music project needs? An ARG”?
No? Well, too bad — you’re getting one anyway.
Welcome to ABANDONWARE I, the first in a series of cryptographic story drops from Modal Shift Media. Watch the videos as they premiere on the YouTube channel, and keep an eye out for hidden clues and encoded challenges. Each one you crack unlocks part of the enigmatic backstory behind Sapphire Eclipse: Type-R Requiem.
Feeling competitive? Good.
The first three players to submit valid confirmation keys for each challenge to the SHIFT blog e-mail address will earn a spot on the official ABANDONWARE leaderboard — eternal glory in a dead game. Remember to include your name as you would like it to appear on the leaderboard and keep it clean. Modal Shift Media reserves the right to ignore submissions.
One Dead Game. Six Corrupted Tracks. Zero Survivors
Modal Shift is pleased to announce ABANDONWARE I — the first in what we hope will become a recurring event on the channel. Here’s how it works: The latent space recovery team at Modal Shift unearths a game that never existed — a corrupted ROM, an abandoned prototype, a 16-bit fever dream in low resolution. This time, it’s Sapphire Eclipse: Type-R — an ambitious sci-fi horror novella disguised as a mid-’90s side-scrolling shooter.
The only thing left behind? The soundtrack. Six unreleased tracks, digitally restored from a corrupted ISO formatted for a console that never exited.
ABANDONWARE. Play or be played.
